This Award will celebrate innovative R&D activity involving strong Industry and Academic collaboration and completed within the last two years. It should ideally demonstrate “World beating” technology development with very high potential of being adopted by industry. However, the judges will recognise the R&D life-cycle and appreciate the time from discovery to implementation of new technology.

Award Criteria

Evidence of the following points will be sought:

  • Genuine collaboration – evidence of a well-balanced and functional team
  • Differentiating / novel technology developed (e.g. patent / novel application…. etc.)
  • Linkage to gaps in the market (opportunity)
  • Continuity Plan to take the research forward to commercialisation

The collaboration may be between UK organisations or, providing there is UK industrial participation, European or International Projects could qualify. The technical span of the Award is open to relevant research for the electronics industry spanning everything from equipment, materials or transistor development to architectures to systems engineering. Supportive information should illustrate the following key points:

  • Importance and relevance of the research to Smart Electronic Systems
  • Strong Industry-Academic Collaboration

  • Evidence of commercialisation potential

Who can apply?

A significant proportion, or all, of the design work must have been carried out in the UK/Ireland.

Online Application Form

The intent of the application process is to acquire sufficient evidence without being burdensome or overly bureaucratic to both applicants and judges. Award candidates are therefore encouraged to provide clear and concise information that is distinctly relevant to the award so that judges are not placed in a position of subjective interpretation.

Where you have worked as part of a team be sure to make it clear in the application how your achievements have been made – judges will not be able to make decisions on inconclusive evidence and will naturally frown upon information interpreted as misleading – therefore, if you worked as part of a team be explicit about what you have done and what was contributed by the team.

All accompanying information should be accurate at the time the application is submitted and should be unlikely to change adversely in a negative capacity in relation to the award before the end of the calendar year.

By submitting an application you confirm that you meet the eligibility criteria set out above.
